Lesson 4 - April 28, 2008

Things we explored today while finishing our mini-project:
  • Moving to an X,Y Coordinate
  • Adding a Background
  • Recording Your Voice
New Things We Learned:
  • How to Create Your Own Background or Your Own Sprite
Please answer these questions:
  • What problems did you have?
  • Were you able to solve them? If so, how?
  • Did you make any new discoveries?
Challenge: If you were to write a program to get your Sprite to turn around one complete circle and had to use the "Repeat" command and the "Turn 60 Degrees" command, what would your program look like? Please write the commands in your comment.

In Scratch, I learned how to make a sprite and a backround. Jack and I kept working on our little animation. One problem we had was how to find the excact X and Y coordinate because we had to get our sprite close to the backboard of the hoop. Jack and I fixed that by moving the sprite with the mouse to the spot and then looking at what the X and Y coordinates were. For the challenge: I would put in a repeat command, a turn 60 degrees command and do this 6 times command and maybe it would work. My program would have a short pencil and you would add different erasers which would have different commands on them.

We had problems getting the ball through the hoop. The X,Y coordinates were hard, but then we figured them out by getting the ball right on the backboard of the hoop.
For the challenge, first I would put when the green flag clicked. Then, I would put the Repeat command with six inside of it. Next, I would put the turn sixty degrees inside the repeat command. I hope this will work.

Me and Dan learned how to make more than one voice recorded. We had a problem putting them in the right order. We couldn't figure out how to fix this.

In scratch I kept on doing x and y coordinates.I tried to make a bee sprite chase a princess sprite, but it didn't really work, so I wrote the same x and y coordinates.I'm going to try it on monday.

We couldn't make the cat say his script at the right time. We weren't able to solve that but if we were to find a "when at ___ say _____" block. If I were to turn him around 1 time I would use a repeat 6 block and a turn 60 degrees block. I even tried the challenge and shared it on the website!

It's interesting how u can add backrounds and record your voice in Scratch. The XY coordinates are very helpful for animations. I also enjoyed how you can make your own Sprite and backround.
